Teacher and Student Success Plan
2019 - 2020

Overarching Goal

All students at Hillcrest High School will

  • achieve 80% proficiency on subject level IPLC standards-based formative assessments
  • SRI data will continue to show a 2% increase in reading proficiency
  • SMI data will continue to show a 2% increase in math proficiency
  • continue to perform at or above district average

This will be achieved through clarity of Tier I instructional standards and success criteria, the implementation of an academic preparation period for intervention (APP), with a focus on Tier 2 instruction which includes reteaching and reassessment.

School Community Council and Staff Involvement in the TSSP
School Community Councils play an integral part in the development and monitoring of TSSP goals. Please briefly describe the participation of SCC members in the development process of this TSSP:

School Community Council reviews all school-wide data and helps develop and approves all CSIP and Trust Land goals.

Academic Goals

62% of 9th-11th grade students are advanced or proficient on the SRI; 21% of 9th=11th grade students are advanced or proficient on the SMI; 80% of all students are reaching mastery on subject level CFAs. This pattern is most common in low income and ELL populations. We believe the problem is a result of a lack of a student growth mindset in school culture and Tier 1 instructional clarity. A strategy for improvement is a focus on relevant standard driven and teacher driven interactive note-taking and close reading of informational text.

HHS will increase the percentage of students who are on track to graduate to 67% by end of third quarter of 2020. On track is defined by GPA and credit completion. This will be achieved through a growth mindset throughout school culture and Tier 1 instructional clarity. With a focus on relevant standards and teacher driven interactive note-taking and close reading of informational text.

Since vocabulary and informational texts are essential for student understanding of what they are reading, teachers have agreed through department and BLT meetings that teachers will implement the following strategies.

Teachers will use...

1. Comprehensive Close Reading of Informational Text - we can explain how the informational texts chosen connect to our curriculum, standards, and success criteria.
Pre-teaching (Background, Context, Format)
Explicit Vocabulary Instruction
Annotating and Interacting with the text
Analysis
Written and verbal responses
2. Interactive Note-Taking
Focusing on relevant instructional standards with a clearly student written stated objective
Capturing
Questioning
Summarizing
Reviewing and Applying
3. Continuing effective IPLC data-driven teams
4. Using data to identify and implement re-teaching groups

Our Academic Goal will be measured by Graduation rate, EWS data. Teacher Learning Goal will be measured by Informal and formal observations, IPLC discussion notes, and progress towards our performance goal.

Teachers are trained on how to implement these strategies that benefit all students. Individual PD can be given to new teachers on how to make accommodations, without lowering academic learning, for SWD. Monitoring will be done through follow-up and check-ins by coaches, IPLC data and reporting, APP attendance and implementation.

We will have PD tied directly to our CSIP goals that will specifically address strategies for improving / helping ELLs. We will also increase scaffolding for ELs through co-taught ELL core classes. We will continue to develop curriculum through our ELD IPLCs. Monitoring will be done through follow-up and check-ins by coaches, IPLC data and reporting, APP attendance and implementation.

Progress Information will be distributed through BLT meetings, Community Council Meetings, quarterly CFA progress to teachers.

School Climate Goals

As of Quarter 2, 70% of students were on track for GPA, and 47% on track overall. This pattern is most common in 9th and 10th, ELLs, SPED, and low income students. We believe the problem is a result of a lack of a comprehensive school plan for student relationships and one-on-one teacher support with students. A strategy for improvement is implementing an academic preparation period (APP) for intervention, with a focus on Tier 2 instruction which includes reteaching and reassessment.

Hillcrest High School’s graduation rate will raise to 85% by the end of school year. By third quarter of the 2019/20 school year, the percentage of students who are at-risk for GPA will drop to 10%, and the percentage of students who are off track for GPA will drop to 10%. This will be achieved through the implementation of an academic preparation period (APP) for intervention, with a focus on Tier 2 instruction which includes reteaching and reassessment.
