Academic Goals

The 2018-19 RISE data indicate that 62.6% of students reached proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA) with a growth score of 51.3. However, this is the first and only year for this testing company, As a result, we want to ensure the data is reliable. Therefore, our goal is reflective of this reality.

To increase the number of students achieving proficiency or higher in ELA to 65% or greater, with a minimum gain of 3% in each grade level on the end of year state tests and student growth score of at least 55 points.

We will provide professional development support of teachers to refine and master the Canyons School District (CSD) behavioral priorities through a professional development day in August. Teacher data teams will work with the academic coach to focus on underachieving groups by continually improving the teachers' use of structured classroom discussion, scaffolding and behavioral priorities. Teacher IPLC teams will work with the academic coach to identify at-risk students and develop interventions. We will include a weekly requirement on the IPLC form indicating their use of content literacy practices. We will provide weekly after-school support. We will provide support with instructional support aides through our Supporting Our Students (SOS) center to help students with work completion. We will provide ongoing support and guidance from our Building Leadership Team and Where Everyone Belongs leaders through ongoing professional development throughout the year. We will provide rewards for those improving on their Reading Inventory scores twice during the year. We will provide students with planners and organizational binders and teach them how to use them. Lastly, we will engage in a book study on reshaping student discipline to align with our Restorative Practice focus.

Student growth and proficiency on the end of year state test with district-level assessments used to measure progress throughout the year.

School Climate Goals

According to the CTESS Secondary Student Survey given in fall 2019, an average response of the students reporting that they feel recognized for positive behavior was 3.29. In the Parent Stakeholder Survey, the average score of parents reporting they feel their child is supported socially and emotionally is 3.17. We believe the problem is a result of teacher to student relationships and interactions and a lack of communication with the community.

On a 4.0 scale, to increase the average score of students responding they have been recognized for following expectations on the student stakeholder survey from 3.29 to 3.35 and the average score of parents responding they feel their child is supported socially and emotionally from 3.17 to 3.25 on the parent stakeholder survey.

We will continue to use Warrior Cards as a school-wide reward system. Students may still use these cards for prizes during drawings or at the Warrior Store. Teams will meet three times each year to discuss Early Warning System (EWS) data. Grade level teams will continue to implement quarterly rewards. We will implement school-wide elements of circles, WEB and restorative practice each Friday during Where Everyone Belongs (WEB) Time. Teachers will also participate in a book study of Hacking School Discipline to aid in classroom management and building relationships. We will continue to support the social/emotional well being of all students with the support of a full-time Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). We will extend our attendance office aide hours to reward student attendance each week and quarter. We will extend our counseling aide hours to reward students in their academic improvements each quarter. We will actively pursue ways to inform and teach students about the dangers and effects of vaping.

We will use the parent survey data from the November CTESS stakeholder survey responses
We will use the CTESS student survey results
We will use the data from surveys given mid and end of year to students

The goal will be communicated with students during the opening class meetings and with parents through an introductory email regarding weekly WEB time. Emails will be sent monthly to parents communicating the monthly theme. It will also be communicated through the school's webpage.
