Teacher and Student Success Plan
2020 - 2021

Overarching Goal

This is an optional goal.

School Community Council and Staff Involvement in the TSSP
School Community Councils play an integral part in the development and monitoring of TSSP goals. Please briefly describe the participation of SCC members in the development process of this TSSP:

School Community Council met on February 18th, March 9, 2020 and finally on April 3, 2020 to review current plan that has been in development with principal, external coaches, achievement coaches, and the building leadership team (BLT).

Academic Goals

37% of students (148/391) are scoring below or well below benchmark on Acadience reading data and 64% (95/148) of of students in grades K-5 are not advancing from below or well below to at or above benchmark.
This pattern is consistent across our student population, but even more prevalent in our students with disabilities. 99% of them are not advancing out of below or well below benchmark.
We believe the problem is a result of lack of targeted instruction, as well as a lack of scaffolding in classrooms during core instruction. A strategy for improvement is professional development on the implementation of these two specific instructional priorities:
1. Scaffolding Instruction and Grouping 2. Structured Classroom Discussion

60% of students scoring below or well below benchmark in the Fall Acadience Reading Composite will move to at or above benchmark, and 60% of students scoring basic or below basic in Reading Inventory will advance to proficient or advanced.
We would like 60% of students to advance in the 2020-2021 school year. The number of students this percentage represents will need to be calculated based on fall benchmark data.

School Climate Goals

43% of students are not on track with attendance. This pattern is more common with our students who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We believe the problem is mulltifaceted and their is a need to revisit CSD's Instructional Priorities for Behavior. In addition, we believe there is a continued need to educate the community on the impact attendance has on student achievement.

Increase the percentage of our students who are on-track for attendance from 57% to 62% at the end of the third trimester in May of 2021. Decrease our students who are at risk for attendance from 21% to 18% at the end of the third trimester in May of 2021.

We will continue to implement a school-wide attendance incentive program, students tracking their attendance daily, teachers documenting attendance calls in their phone logs, increase community education through communication, increase positive student/teacher relationships and increase the use of engagement strategies in the classroom. In addition, 100% of Sprucewood students will be greeted each morning at the door before entering their classroom. Instructional Priorities for Behavior will be revisited and implemented in the classrooms. We will continue to increase the effectiveness of Morning Meetings by embedding the Second Step curriculum for the 2020-2021 school year.

Teacher phone logs and attendance data on dashboard will be used to assess the effectiveness of implementation. Observations of students being greeted at the door each day by their teachers, with a plan in place to have another adult greet their students when they have outside duty.
