Teacher and Student Success Plan
2021 - 2022

Overarching Goal

Increase academic success at Sandy Elementary by focusing on close reading strategies, number talks, and building community through developing student teacher relationships.

School Community Council and Staff Involvement in the TSSP
School Community Councils play an integral part in the development and monitoring of TSSP goals. Please briefly describe the participation of SCC members in the development process of this TSSP:

The SCC began discussing TSSP plans in our January meeting.  The SCC agreed that we needed to simplify the plan for the following year and continue a focus on growth and rigor.  In February school data was presented to the SCC and more specific goals and action steps for the next year were developed by the group members.  In March the SCC did a final walkthrough of the TSSP.  Clarifications were given as questions arose.  A vote was taken and the plan was approved 100%.

Academic Goals

49% of multi linguals (ML’s) and 47% of students with disabilities (SWD's) are not making adequate growth. We believe the challenge highlights a need for fidelity with interventions (95% & Exemplary Center for Reading Instruction - ECRI) and core instruction as well as an understanding of grade level standards and how to prioritize them. A strategy for improvement is to prioritize professional development on foundational reading skills as well as professional development on close reading strategies (unpacking standards, creating text dependent questions, academic discourse, etc.), and creating a schedule that allows for Tier 2 instruction to be given to SWD.

By May 2022 75% of students will make typical or above typical progress in reading as measured by Acadience Pathways of Progress.

- Focus on individual parts of Close Reading and incorporate them more fluidly and practically throughout all areas of instruction (teacher professional development $9,950):
* Target standards
* Common Formative Assessments
* Text dependent questions
* Structured classroom discussion
* Written product
- Where possible, ensure that students with disabilities receive Tier 2 instruction in their classrooms.
- Hire one classroom interventionist ($11,000).

We will monitor progress through Acadience benchmark and progress monitoring data.

We will incorporate the following strategies to help our students with disabilities:
* Tier 3 support through resource
* Adjusted schedule to allow for Tier 2 intervention with classroom teacher (for some grade levels)
* Structured classroom discussion
* Close reading strategies
* 95% phonics lesson library (PLL) and phonemic awareness (PA) kit in the resource room to better align with classroom interventions
* Develop and improve problem solving protocols with the SPED team

We will incorporate the following strategies to help our ML students:
* Integrated English Language Development (ELD) instruction
* Imagine Learning - check ins with our ALS Facilitator (all students not making a year’s worth of growth and Level 1 students)
* Close reading strategies
* Structured Classroom Discussion

Progress will be communicated to stakeholders after winter benchmark testing in school newsletter. Also, information will be shared with PTA, BLT and SCC in a meeting after winter benchmark testing.

Academic Goals

40% of students are are below benchmark in Acadience Math Composite scores. This pattern is most common in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades. We believe the challenge is a result of not knowing their math facts and a lower reading ability. A strategy for improvement is focus on individual parts of Close Reading and incorporate them more fluidly and practically throughout all areas of instruction, incorporate Number Talks in math instruction on a regular basis, where possible, ensure that students with disabilities receive Tier 2 instruction in their classrooms, and purchase technology and programs to enhance instruction.
.

Acadience math composite proficiency will increase by 25% from Fall 2021 to May 2022.

School Climate Goals

Currently only 70% of Sandy students report that they always know that an adult at the school cares about them. We can address this issue by improving a school-wide system of positive reinforcement and increasing teacher knowledge and skill surrounding relationship building, restorative practice, and class circles. We will also provide professional development to increase the efficacy of ESP’s in managing behaviors and SEL needs.

By May 2022 we will improve student relationships and feeling connected with adults at school as measured by surveys given to students at the beginning of the year.

Make adjustments to our school-wide PBIS system to support more positive reinforcements of appropriate student behavior and success (purchase PBIS Rewards, purchase a variety of additional incentives, reinforce common behavioral expectations, etc. - $5,500).

We will measure progress based on CAYCI baseline data and a shorter climate survey we will administer to students during the school year.

Progress will be communicated to stakeholders after winter benchmark testing in school newsletter. Also, information will be shared with PTA, BLT and SCC in a meeting after winter benchmark testing.
