Teacher and Student Success Plan
2022 - 2023

Overarching Goal

  1. Expose ALL  students (regardless of  age, diagnosis and physical ability) to activities that will help them experience their body in different positions in space.

  2. These activities will be performed on a daily basis by the students and will be coordinated by the related services team (OT/PE/PT).

  3. The activities will be aimed to improve, not only the students’ gross and fine motor abilities, but also to develop the organizational skills needed to succeed academically.

  4. Anticipated achievement of these goals is projected between 1-3 school years (2022-2025).

School Community Council and Staff Involvement in the TSSP
School Community Councils play an integral part in the development and monitoring of TSSP goals. Please briefly describe the participation of SCC members in the development process of this TSSP:

The Jordan Valley School Community Council started discussing student needs and plans as early as September 2021. Every month leading up to the approved plan in March, we discussed options and prioritizing our students' needs. The plans we have implemented over the last couple of years have directly impacted student growth and we want to keep the momentum going.

Academic Goals

The list of “movement items” requested have been carefully selected by the Jordan Valley OT, PE and PT team to develop and improve motor, social and academic skills in students with disabilities K- post high school. These skills include, but are not limited to developmental and transition movements, sensory integration, vestibular stimulation, balance and coordination maturity and increased strength.
Dr. John Medina, states, “Brain Rule #1: Exercise boosts brain power.”
We take movement breaks that give us a chance to stretch, get more blood flow to our brains, build stamina, and grow our brains’ neural connections.

Physical exercises not only activate the hippocampus area in the brain for working memory, but also executive functions skills in the frontal lobes. In the book, Building the brain for reading grades 4-12 by Pamela Nevills, reports that classroom outcomes included improved Math, logical thinking and reading according to research.
