Teacher and Student Success Plan
2023 - 2024

Overarching Goal

Sandy Elementary will implement a systems approach to improve academic achievement. Starting with kindergarten and 1st grade we prioritize resources according to the RTI model and the science of reading in order to improve student learning at all tiers of instruction, thus allowing us to pass forward a greater number of students on benchmark.  Additionally we will implement these same strategies in grades 2 through 5.  Year after year we will pass forward more and more students on benchmark. This will decrease the amount of remediation necessary and improve student academic achievement overall.

School Community Council and Staff Involvement in the TSSP
School Community Councils play an integral part in the development and monitoring of TSSP goals. Please briefly describe the participation of SCC members in the development process of this TSSP:

The SCC was involved in all steps along the way.  Beginning in January the SCC gave input to continue with prioritization of achievement in kindergarten and 1st grade.  Additionally, the SCC supports making academic achievement for SPED and ML students a higher priority by more explicitly tracking their data.  The SCC also supports building capacity for teachers (i.e. providing funds for teachers to attend PDs and increasing shared leadership opportunities).  Resources for informing parents about best practices and ways to support students at home was also expressed.

In February the SCC expressed continuing support of Sandy's scholarly initiative through focusing students on achieving academic success and taking pride in our ability to learn new things. We discussed continued support of our attendance initiative through incentives and parent education.  Additionally, the SCC reviewed notes from the BLT discussion on possibly changing our academic goals slightly.  They felt we should keep them the same for another year since these goals are relatively new.  Finally, the SCC expressed support of increasing Tier II supports for 1st grade to aid in the dip in achievement that is typically seen at that grade level.

Reading and Math
- Strengthen all tiers of instruction (1, 2, and 3).
* Follow the Response To Intervention (RTI) model, such as: The entire school is a Profession Learning Community (PLC); Establish essential actions for collaborative teacher teams, the school leadership team, and the school intervention team (including about 6 interventionists $93,070.).
* Increase teacher shared leadership and instructional capacity through Professional Learning (PL) on evidence based pedagogy and public practice (such as peer observations and/or coaching cycles - $20,300).
* Focus on RISE in grades 3-5 (benchmark tests, DOK 3 & 4 learning tasks, etc.).
* Pay for licenses for approved reading and math software programs to deepen and differentiate instruction ($12,000).

Acadience Reading and Math Benchmark scores

We will focus on SWD subgroup data in data discussions.
We will provide tier 2 instruction to SWDs in the classroom whenever possible.
We will provide tier 3 instruction to SWDs according to their IEP.

We will focus on ML subgroup data in data discussions.
We will provide tier 2 instruction to MLs in the classroom whenever possible.
We will provide tier 3 instruction to MLs according to their needs.

Progress will be communicated to parents via news letter and/or Parent Square messaging at least 3 times a year.
