Teacher and Student Success Plan
2023 - 2024

Overarching Goal

Our goal at Mount Jordan is to support the mission of AVID of closing the opportunity gap by preparing ALL students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.

School Community Council and Staff Involvement in the TSSP
School Community Councils play an integral part in the development and monitoring of TSSP goals. Please briefly describe the participation of SCC members in the development process of this TSSP:

We share TSSP data and budget with our SCC monthly. Prior to our meeting with SCC, our administrative team looked at our current goals to identify action items that have been addressed, and ones that still need further support. On February 1st we shared data and received feedback on our needs and possible plans for implementation for TSSP with the SCC. We gathered feedback that we in turn took to our BLT, comprised of teachers, coaches and administration, and came up with a plan to address our deficits and celebrate our successes. We met with the BLT on February 7th where we discussed how we can update our goals to meet the needs of all of our students. The BLT members were tasked with taking our suggestions to obtain feedback from their teams. Over the next month, our BLT created a rough draft that helped address concerns that we have with our student progress and intentionally created goals that will address the needs of our students in the upcoming year. In the March SCC meeting, we looked at updated goals and action items, and worked on assigning a budget to each action item. The final recommendation will be shared with all of the stakeholders to ensure everyone is invested in the goals for next year. SCC members signed our signature page and will receive final copies via email. We appreciate all of the feedback and support that our SCC provides for Mount Jordan Middle School.

Academic Goals

In fall 2022 -2023 the Reading Inventory (RI) data showed that 46% of MJMS students earned proficient or advanced. In Winter 2022-2023 the RI data showed that 52% of MJMS students earned proficient or advanced. This data is an indicator of what has occurred over the past several years and is stagnant. We have decided to move towards a growth goal to try and be more inclusive of our student population and to motivate them to all work on their individual goals. Currently during the 2022-2023 school year, 58% of MJMS students are reaching the "Annual Expected Growth" for the Reading Inventory.

During the 2023 -2024 school year, 65% of MJMS students will increase their Reading Inventory(RI) Lexile score by the "Annual Expected Growth" between the fall and spring RI administration.

School Climate Goals

During Term 1 of the 2022 - 2023 school year, 49% of students were on track and 11% were at risk with Ds and Fs according to the Early Warning Systems (EWS) data. During Term 2, 42% of MJMS students were on track and 9% were at risk with Ds and Fs according to EWS data. Through a focus on social-emotional learning during Mountaineer Time and community-building efforts through an after-school program, we are hoping this will lead to better buy-in and attendance during the school day, leading to increased grades and a better sense of belonging.

During the 2023-2024 school year, 90% of students will identify that they feel safe, and have at least one adult in the building that they trust as measured by a beginning and end of year school climate survey.
