Teacher and Student Success Plan
2018 - 2019

Overarching Goal

On average, sixty percent of the Union Middle students are currently able to demonstrate mastery of state core standards on our Union common formative assessments.  GOAL:   70% of students will maintain proficiency on Union's common assessments in all subject areas for three years, through May, 2020.  (Scoring 70% or above on a common assessment will be considered proficient.)

School Community Council and Staff Involvement in the TSSP
School Community Councils play an integral part in the development and monitoring of TSSP goals. Please briefly describe the participation of SCC members in the development process of this TSSP:

On February 15, 2018, the School Community Council members reviewed data measuring progress on the academic and cultural goals contained in the 2017-18 Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP).  Council members also discussed potential ways to spend the School Land Trust money in the upcoming year to continue to foster growth at Union.

On March 15, 2018, the School Community Council members unanimously approved the Continuous School Improvement Plan as well as the Land Trust Plan and budget for the 2018-19 school year.

Academic Goal

60% of the students are not proficient at grade level standards. This is due to the misalignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. We want to increase the use of high quality assessments and evidence-based instructional strategies on a daily basis.

70% of students will demonstrate proficiency on Union's common assessments. (Scoring 70% or above on a common assessment will be considered proficient.)

What evidence-based instructional strategy will be your focus for the year?
Curriculum: As IPLC teams, backwards design units, based on the Utah Core Standards. Planning will include common assessments, rubrics, and objective trackers.
Instruction: Utilize grouping strategies to help all students master standards
Assessment: Use rubrics and objective trackers to provide feedback and self-reflection on projects/assignments.

We will continue to build teacher capacity by:
* Providing strategic, differentiated professional development
* Develop a teacher peer mentoring system
* Encourage public practice and incorporate targeted learning walks
* Building Leadership Focus: Strengthen the IPLCs
